iMONASTERY
The International Forest Monastery, Chiang Mai
Hidden within the mountain forests of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, iMONASTERY is an international forest monastery created as a sanctuary for deep meditation, monastic training, and the cultivation of wisdom.
Designed by the monastic community itself, iMONASTERY exists to nurture quality monks and sincere lay practitioners—individuals grounded in the Dhamma, disciplined in ethical living, and skilled in meditation—for the long-term flourishing of Buddhism at an international level.
It is here that the Monk Life Project takes place.
This is not a retreat center.
It is a living monastery, guided by tradition, simplicity, and purpose.

Sapaya 4 — The Four Supportive Conditions
In Buddhism, Sapaya refers to conditions that naturally support meditation and inner cultivation.
At iMONASTERY, life is intentionally structured around the Sapaya 4:
1. Site (Place)
A secluded forest environment in the mountains of Chiang Mai, free from urban noise and distraction. Nature itself becomes a teacher—supporting stillness, presence, and clarity
2, Food
Simple, mindful meals taken according to monastic discipline. Food is not indulgence, nor deprivation—
but nourishment that supports clarity of mind and balance of body.
3. People
A community of ordained monks and sincere practitioners who live with discipline, humility, and mutual respect.
Here, learning happens not only through teachings, but through daily example.
4. Wisdom
Teachings rooted in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition, emphasizing direct experience, meditation, and ethical living.
Wisdom is transmitted through practice, not ideology.
Together, these four conditions create an environment where meditation deepens naturally and sustainably.
iMONASTERY Environment
Designed for Inner Stillness
The environment at iMONASTERY is intentionally simple.
There is no excess stimulation, no unnecessary noise, and no performance of spirituality.
Surrounded by forest, silence, and natural rhythms, the mind gradually releases tension and settles on its own.
This environment naturally supports:
Deep concentration
Emotional calm
Reflection and insight
Silence is not enforced.
It emerges naturally.
Why Forest Monasteries
Forest monasteries exist for one essential purpose:
to remove distraction so the mind can see clearly.
Unlike urban monasteries, forest monasteries minimize:
Sensory overload
Social obligation
External stimulation
This allows practitioners to reconnect with:
The present moment
Their own inner experience
The natural rhythm of awareness
For centuries, forest monasteries have been the training grounds for serious meditation practice and deep insight.
Why Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang Mai has long been regarded as one of Thailand’s most important centers for Buddhist practice.
It is known for:
A strong and respected monastic lineage
Peaceful mountain forests
Deep cultural respect for contemplative life
The combination of authentic Theravāda tradition, experienced monks, and a supportive natural environment makes Chiang Mai an ideal place for deep inner training.
Here, participants are not tourists or observers.
They become part of a living monastic tradition.
iMONASTERY & THE MONK LIFE PROJECT
The Monk Life Project takes place within the living rhythm of iMONASTERY.
Participants live, practice, and train within a real monastic environment—guided by monks, supported by tradition, and grounded in daily discipline.
This ensures the experience is:
Authentic
Structured
Safe
Deeply transformative
The Monk Life Project is not about escaping life.
It is about learning how to live it—with clarity, balance, and wisdom.
iMONASTERY provides the conditions.
The practice reveals the path.
